Intel’s New Core i9 Sounds Like a Monster
It’s been a long time since Intel came out with a new line of CPUs. Although the company updates its processor lineup every year like clockwork, the product categories remain the same: Core i3 for budget PCs, Core i5 for most people, and Core i7 for those mystical ‘power users.’ But starting this year, the dial goes up to 9.
A previous rumor had suggested that Intel will be debuting a Core i9 lineup this month. Now a new leaked specs sheet has details: there will be multiple Core i9 models, topping out with a disturbingly powerful 18-core version.
Videocardz got their hands on a bunch of information about the upcoming Core i9 lineup, including all the models and the roadmap for the release date. The Core i9 appears to be the spearhead for a new wave of powerful Intel processors, named the Core X series. The X series will come in Core i5, Core i7 and Core i9 versions, going from 8 to 18 cores.
The headline is the Core i9-7980XE, an 18-core monster that should comfortably be the fastest consumer chip on the market when it launches. It has a TPU of 165 Watts, which is a lot compared to Intel’s other CPUs. But the high power draw should mean plenty of speed with overclocking, which is fully supported on the chip. Asus Unveils the World’s Thinnest Convertible Laptop yet
Asus unveiled the Zenbook Flip S in the last week of May in a large scale launch event, a day ahead of the larger Computex technology show in Taipei.
The Zenbook Flip S is 10.9mm thin. In comparison, competitors like the HP Spectre x360 come in at 13.8mm, and the Apple MacBook Air measures 17mm.
The Taiwanese maker’s 13.3” laptop features a 360 degree hinge, and weighs just 1.1kg — again, lighter than the HP and Apple competition.
The Flip S also boasts a fingerprint security sensor, 4K display, and fully supports Windows Ink in Windows 10 — the OS’s support for onscreen pen input.
And like everyone else, Asus is also jumping on the USB-C bandwagon, with two ports for data and charging.
But how durable is the laptop?
Asus claims it’s able to handle 20,000 open and close cycles, so it should last its lifetime in the average user’s hands.
With a blue and gold finish, the ASUS Flip S is also stunning to look at — though its shiny surface also meant that every smudge and fingerprint could be seen.
Asus also unveiled four other laptops at the press conference: the ZenBook 3 Deluxe, the ZenBook Pro, the VivoBook S and the VivoBook Pro. The VivoBook S comes in at the lowest price point.

New ‘Judy’ Malware on Android May Have Infected 36 Million Devices
There’s a new piece of Android malware on the loose and it’s a doozy. Originally discovered by researchers at Check Point few days ago, the malware has been dubbed ‘judy’ and is potentially one of the most widely spread pieces of Android malware we’ve seen to date. It’s currently believed that upwards of 36.5 million Android devices may have already been infected.
According to Check Point, the malware — which is seemingly designed to underhandedly generate ad revenue — was found lurking on 41 separate apps on the Google Play Store and was apparently able to skirt around Google’s Bouncer system.
“The malware uses infected devices to generate large amounts of fraudulent clicks on advertisements, generating revenues for the perpetrators behind it,” the security report reads.
As for how the malware operates, Check Point explains:
Once a user downloads a malicious app, it silently registers receivers which establish a connection with the C&C server. The server replies with the actual malicious payload, which includes JavaScript code, a user-agent string and URLs controlled by the malware author. The malware opens the URLs using the user agent that imitates a PC browser in a hidden webpage and receives a redirection to another website. Once the targeted website is launched, the malware uses the JavaScript code to locate and click on banners from the Google ads infrastructure w
