HP’s Longstanding Design Deliver Innovative Products
HP’s longstanding Design for Environment program continues to deliver innovative products that reduce their impact on the environment. HP’s newest LaserJet printing systems represent the latest example of HP’s commitment to the environment by consuming less plastic and less energy while delivering HP’s legendary high-quality output.
In November 2007, HP will begin shipping the HP LaserJet P1005/1006 and P1505 personal LaserJet printers, which not only offer the most compact design to date of any HP LaserJet printer, but use less power and require less packaging. The Original HP print cartridges and patented monochrome toner used by these printers also represent an environmental advancement; the spherical properties and uniform particle size of the new, chemically prepared toner enable a more efficient printing process, using fewer resources and less energy than previous printer generations. The new toner formulation requires 15% less energy to reach its melting point than the conventional toner used in HP’s prior generation of similar cartridges. The new compact cartridge design uses 10% less plastic (by weight) than previous generations. The precise toner placement of the new printing system uses 9% less toner per page without compromising output quality. The new toner formulations and compact cartridge design alone – without considering the benefits of less power required by the printer - will result in a reduction of over 5.5 million lbs of CO2 equivalents through 2010, the equivalent of growing over 60,000 trees for ten years.
The HP LaserJet P1505 uses almost 25% less energy to print a page than its predecessor – and HP’s new monochrome toner formulation is an important contributor to that energy savings. and the reduced energy consumption not only lowers the impact on the environment, it offers tangible economic benefits for HP’s customers by offering the potential to reduce operating costs.
Designing For The Environment
These products represent the latest in a history of advancements conceived by HP’s Design For Environment (DfE) program. Recognizing the importance of design to reducing a product’s environmental footprint, HP launched the DfE program in 1992 to help create, guide and measure environmentally responsible design innovations. DfE is an integral part of HP’s ‘closed loop’ vision for its product designers, which considers environmental factors from design through end-of-life recycling and the use of recovered materials in new products.
HP manages its DfE program through a network of environmental product stewards, environmental professionals who work directly with research and development teams and manufacturing engineers to reduce the environmental impact of new products. Together they establish and track environmental performance goals, and identify, prioritize and recommend environmental design features. The DfE program for print cartridges focuses on the innovative use of materials to improve cartridge recyclability, decrease resource consumption and increase the use of recycled content.
Recycle with confidence
As with all Original HP print cartridges, you can recycle with confidence knowing that no cartridge returned and recycled through HP’s free Planet Partners program will ever end up in a landfill
