Movers & Shakers 2014 IT/ITES Sector in Bangaldesh
The year 2014 has been a tremendous year for the ICT sector
of Bangladesh. The sector has witnessed all out success in every sector- largely because of the efforts of the public and private sectors. Increase in export revenue, growth in job creation, exceptional and encouraging initiatives from several government ministries and organizations, rise of e-Commerce are examples of a few exciting success stories of the year. The Monthly Computer Jagat acknowledges the following most influential individuals for their outstanding contribution in ICT :
Government Sector
Brigadier General Sultanuzzaman Md Saleh Uddin his dedication has made the SMART CARD national ID a reality. The launching of smart card national ID will allow growth of IT/ITES industry through launching of new apps by the government and the industry.
Hardware Industry
Mr. Shaikh Abdul Aziz is one of the senior IT entrepreneur in the country. He has established Leads Corporation acquiring the NCR Bangladesh. He has contributed in defining the policy for promoting IT sector in Bangladesh. He was one of the early voices for the establishment of HiTech Park in Bangladesh.
Digital Content Sector
Mr. Mustafa Jabbar is an icon in the Bangladesh IT/ITES industry. He has contributed in the growth of Bangla in computer. His recent initiative of developing digital content has enriched Bangla language Digital Content in the cyberspace.
IT/ITES Industry
Mr. Shahzaman Mozumder Bir Protik. A valiant freedom fighter and one of the key contributors in the development of ICT industry in Bangladesh. He has served in IT industry in various capacity and has contributed in the development of IT sector. His blog kingof Dhaka has educated many executives on the dress code at various occasions.
Mr. Shamsudoha is the chairman of Dohatech New Media Ltd. one of the highly respected companys in the developed countries. His company’s software drives many organizations worldwide. He has proved the talents of Bangladeshi IT professionals globally in late 1980s through his innovative idea. His company has developed the first biometric AFIS solution for Bangladesh.
Mr. Shafqat Islam, CEO and Co-Founder, NewsCred. NewsCred, the world’s leading content marketing platform, owned by two Bangladeshi nationals has received US$25m Series C funding led by InterWest Partners.With this investment, NewsCred will aggressively scale global operations with a focus on sales, technology and product development. NewsCred experienced tremendous demand from global Fortune 500 clients.
e-Commerce Sector
Mr. Sayeeful Islam, Managing Director, Software Shop Ltd. (SSL Wireless). His IT firm has had a pioneering impact in the industry to produce new line of businesses and totally revolutionized the Mobile VAS, Banking services, Payments and E-Commerce services sector.
Academia
Dr. Suraiya Pervin, Professor CSE, Dhaka University as an academician has provided a pioneering role of computer science education in Bangladesh. She completed both her Bachelors and Master of Science degree from the University of Dhaka and received 1st class 1st in both degrees. She did her Ph. D from IIT, Kharagpur, India.
Women Sector
Sonia Bashir Kabir is one of the successful Bangladeshi female IT professionals. She is currently the head of Microsoft in Bangladesh. She has also served Sun Dell at various capacities. She has contributed in building women entrepreneurships in IT/ITES sector in Bangladesh.
ICT4D Sector
Mr. Naimuzzaman Mukta has been a silent contributor to ICT for Development. He has contributed in the policy research and promoting UISCs in Bangladesh. As a member of a2I family he has been instrumental in bringing innovation in the government and the private sector.
Banking Sector
Mr. Tapan Kanti Sarkar is a dedicated IT worker in the banking sector. He is also the President of the CTO Forum, Bangladesh. His efforts have brought IT professionals and the industry to share their experience in technology. He has contributed in development of ICT in the government and the industry.
Telecom Sector
Mr. M. Anisur Rahman, CEO, Genuity Systems offers gplex Call center solution, Mobile application development for Symbian, Android & Iphone, soft-switch and billing, Interactive Voice Response (IVR). His innovation is now available globally.
Civil Society
Mr. Reza Salim has been a prominent figure in taking IT education and IT based services to the rural Bangladesh. His efforts have been highly praised and replicated globally. His contribution for the civil society and rural people is a glowing example of bringing development towards reaching the unreached.

Mr. Shezan Shams has innovated to provide solutions for safer and fast cash delivery in Bangladesh through establishment of FastCash. His innovation is geared towards easing business in Bangladesh. His innovation of the FastCash Credit Card is futuristic and holds great potential.
