AMD raising market share in Bangladesh
Chip making company — Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) — is gradually raising its market share in Bangladesh because of availability of innovative products at comparatively cheap prices. AMD products are used to empower information technology (IT) devices like desktop computer, laptop and other devices.
Local distributors market different global vendors’ products which are either Intel powered or AMD powered processor along with graphics card. Two distributors — UCC and Smart Technology — are the agents of the AMD powered products in the country, industry insiders said. They said the AMD has so far captured more than 15 per cent market share starting business here in 2009. The distributors import products of the global brands like Samsung, Dell, HP, Asus, Lenovo, Acer and Toshiba as per the market demand.
Deputy General Manager of UCC Anwarul Quyyum Chowdhury (Raju) said his company is marketing the AMD powered products, mainly processor and graphics card, along with other IT accessories. FX4300, FX6300 and FX8350 are comparable with the Intel series Core i3, Core i5 and Core i7 in terms of quality. However, prices of AMD products are much lower than those of Intel products, industry insiders said.
The customers who use its product — Richland A4-4000 — do not need extra graphics card, because the card is built in with Richland, according to the UCC.
During a recent visit here, Ajay Koul, Country Manager (Components Business) of AMD India Pvt Ltd, told the FE: “Bangladeshi users are far more enthusiastic about new and emerging technologies. So I can safely say that the future of the IT market here is really bright.” Talking about popularity of its products, he said “this is because AMD has been offering products and services on the basis of users’ needs.”
