Bangladesh Attends in ‘OutsourceWorld New York 2008’
The participation of Bangladesh at the premier IT outsourcing exposition in USA named as OutsourceWorld New York created quite a stir. With a country pavilion showcasing 16 exhibitors and 41 delegates from BASIS and EPB, Bangladesh had a highly disciplined and professional participation at the event that impressed all visitors and the organizers of the show. This was the biggest ever participation of Bangladeshi Software and ITES companies in any overseas event. The participation has been made possible with generous support from the EPB. The BASIS contingent at the OutsourceWorld New York carried the slogan “Bangladesh: Asia’s Emerging IT Services Destination”.
OutsourceWorld New York was held at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in Manhattan on October 15-16, 2008. The exhibition drew more than a thousand senior business executives and industry leaders in USA. The CIOs and other top executives from global Fortune 100 corporations.
The sixteen exhibitor companies from BASIS were Bangladesh Internet Press (BIPL), Bdjobs.com, Compulink International, Daud Information Technology, Devnet, Dohatec New Media, Epsilon Consulting & Development Services, Flora Systems, ReliSource Technologies, Scankort Decode Mapping, Soltius Infotech Bangladesh, Spectrum Engineering Consortium Ltd, Spinnovation, TechnoVista, Tradexcel Graphics Ltd. and Upload Yourself Systems.
Apart from the exhibiting companies there were delegates also from DataSoft Systems, ICC, Information Engineers and Consultants, Mazumder IT, Mediasoft Data Systems Ltd., and TechAnts Technologies Ltd.
There has been a rising global confidence in Bangladesh and its IT Industry in the recent years. Goldman Sachs recognized Bangladesh as one of the Next Eleven (N-11) - a list of eleven countries having strong potential for becoming the world’s largest economies along with BRICs (Brazil, Russia, India and China), with highly promising outlooks for investment and future growth. European Commission has recently included Bangladesh as one of the top IT Outsourcing destinations in the world.
EPB and BASIS jointly organized a seminar on ‘Risk Mitigation in Outsourcing: Bangladesh as an option’ on October 16, 2008 at the fair venue.
The Network of Young Bangladeshi American Professionals (NYBAP) also hosted a lunch meeting for the BASIS delegation on the 18th in New York.
It may be mentioned here that as to the BASIS report, Bangladesh would earn an amount 06 3 crore dollars from outssourcing sector, which is 50 lac dollars more than that of the previous year.
